Local League vs. Select vs. Rep Baseball
Choosing the right baseball program depends on your child’s interest, skill level, and time commitment. Local League, Select, and Rep baseball each offer unique experiences designed to support player development at different stages.
Local League Baseball (Recreational)
Local League baseball is open to players of all skill levels and focuses on fun, learning, and community.
Key Highlights

No tryouts; open to all players

Emphasis on fundamentals, confidence, teamwork, and sportsmanship

Balanced teams for fair play

Typically, one practice per week

One home game, one away game per week

Local travel may include but not limited to Simcoe, Delhi, Port Dover, Walsingham

Season runs mid-May to mid-August

Lowest cost (CMBA registration fee only)
Best for: New or developing players who want a fun-first, low-pressure baseball experience.
Select Baseball
Select baseball bridges the gap between Local League and Rep, offering increased competition with a moderate commitment. Select team is IN ADDITION to Local League teams, were Local League teams are priority.
Key Highlights

Tryouts held in April after Local League teams are formed

Competes in the Hamilton District Baseball Association (HDBA) Select Loop

5 home and 5 away games

Season is June- first 2 weeks of August and games will be on Friday, Saturday and Sundays, as to not conflict with Local League. Please note that games may include double headers.

Regional travel may include, but not limited to Hamilton, Ancaster, Binbrook, Burlington, Welland, St. Catharines, Thorold, Cambridge, Waterloo

Higher level of competition than Local League (U11 please note there will be live pitching)

Additional TEAM costs not covered by CMBA registration fee may apply:

Select jersey (CMBA provides Local League Jersey)

Game costs (home games only) include diamond rentals and umpire fees

OBA team registration ($350 per team)

Rep Baseball (Competitive)
Rep baseball is for players seeking the highest level of competition and development.
Key Highlights

Tryouts to create most competitive divisional team typically held in September

Competes in Southern Counties Rep Loop and OBA-sanctioned tournaments

Multiple weekly practices, games, and weekend tournaments

Travel throughout Southern Ontario

Season runs early May to early September, with optional winter training depending on coach

Additional TEAM costs not covered by CMBA registration fee may apply:

Home and Away Jerseys (league provides a practice uniform)
